They help dealers buy your car. We help you buy theirs.
Motorway is a seller-side auction marketplace. You list your car, dealers bid on it, and Motorway takes a cut from both sides. It is a smart way to sell. But if you are trying to buy a car, it is not built for you. MMC is.
The fundamental difference.
Motorway
Motorway is a seller-side auction marketplace. You enter your registration, get a valuation, and if you proceed, dealers in their network bid on your car. The highest bidder wins, Motorway facilitates the handover, and both sides pay a fee.
It is a genuinely good platform for selling a car quickly and transparently. Revenue reached £66.4M in FY24, with profitability expected around mid-2026. But Motorway is not a place to find, research, or negotiate on a car you want to buy. That is simply not what it does.
Matt's Motor Club
MMC is built entirely for the buyer. We monitor thousands of dealer forecourts, track every price change, detect 28 signals that reveal when a dealer is motivated to sell, and give you an AI Negotiator that writes personalised scripts for email, phone, and face-to-face.
We take zero from the motor trade. No listing fees, no auction commissions, no seller charges. Our only incentive is helping you walk into a dealership informed, confident, and one step ahead.
Feature by feature.
Who pays them?
MMC
Members. MMC is funded entirely by its membership. We take zero from the motor trade.
Motorway
Both sides. Dealers pay a fee on each vehicle they win at auction (typically around £1,000). Sellers now pay a tiered service fee too (£29.99 to £99.99), introduced in May 2025.
Sponsored listings
MMC
None. Every vehicle is ranked purely on data: market signals, price history, and dealer behaviour. Nothing is boosted or buried.
Motorway
Yes, on the seller side. Motorway offers a “Paid Listing” option that gives sellers a badge and enhanced visibility among bidding dealers.
Price history
MMC
Full dated price history on every vehicle. Every change, every date, from the day we first spotted it. You see the complete picture.
Motorway
Seller-side only. Motorway’s Car Value Tracker lets you monitor your own car’s value over 24 months. It is not a buyer-facing tool and does not show pricing trends on cars for sale.
Deal rating / value estimate
MMC
Estimated saving range, negotiation room, and confidence scores based on 28 trading signals, stock ageing, and market benchmarks.
Motorway
Seller valuation and guide price only. Motorway tells sellers what their car is worth. There is no buyer-facing deal rating, savings estimate, or negotiation guidance.
Dealer pressure signals
MMC
28 signals including Sales Slump, Stocking Cliff, Heavy Metal, Quarter End, Multi Drop, and more. We tell you when a dealer is under pressure to sell, and why.
Motorway
Not available. Motorway operates on the sell side. Dealer behaviour, stocking patterns, and sales pressure are not part of the platform.
AI negotiation tools
MMC
My AI Negotiator builds personalised email scripts, phone call strategies, and face-to-face briefings based on vehicle intelligence and dealer signals.
Motorway
Not available. Motorway’s auction model means sellers accept or reject dealer bids. There is no buyer negotiation workflow.
Dealer due diligence
MMC
Companies House status, FCA register check, Google reviews, and dealer group detection. Automatically, on every vehicle.
Motorway
Motorway vets the dealers on its auction network, but this verification is for seller protection. Buyers using Motorway are the dealers themselves.
Price drop alerts
MMC
Watch any vehicle for instant notifications when the price changes. Plus proactive alerts when new vehicles match your criteria, delivered 24 hours before free members.
Motorway
Seller value alerts only. Motorway can notify you if your car’s estimated value changes. There are no buyer-side price drop alerts because Motorway is not a buyer platform.
Educational content
MMC
The Briefing Room: 68 lessons covering negotiation, dealer psychology, finance, part-exchange, timing, and signals. Written from real trade experience, with audio narration. 44 free, 24 premium.
Motorway
Substantive guides on selling, valuations, and car ownership. Well written and genuinely helpful if you are selling. Not relevant if you are buying.
Commission on sales
MMC
None. We don’t transact sales, don’t take commissions, and don’t earn a penny from any dealer. Ever.
Motorway
Yes. Motorway charges dealers a fee on every vehicle they purchase through the platform. Since May 2025, sellers also pay a service fee. Both sides of the transaction are monetised.
Proactive vehicle discovery
MMC
We find vehicles for you based on your criteria and push them to you. You don’t search. We surface.
Motorway
Not applicable. Motorway is for selling, not buying. There is no vehicle discovery for buyers.
Curated, not a search engine
MMC
Instead of thousands of listings, you get only the vehicles that passed our filters, with the full story behind each one. Less noise, more signal.
Motorway
Not a consumer search engine. Motorway is a seller-side auction platform where dealers bid on cars.
Capped membership
MMC
We deliberately limit seats per region so the intelligence stays valuable and the deals don’t get crowded.
Motorway
Open to all sellers. More sellers means more inventory for dealers to bid on.
Dealer behaviour profiling
MMC
We profile the dealer’s behaviour, pressure, and motivation to sell. 28 signals tell you when a dealer is ready to negotiate.
Motorway
Not applicable. Motorway helps dealers buy stock. It doesn’t help consumers read dealer behaviour.
Independence
MMC
100% independent. No dealer affiliations, no manufacturer partnerships, no sponsored content. Our only incentive is helping you buy well.
Motorway
Motorway sits between sellers and dealers, taking fees from both. Revenue was £66.4M in FY24, with an estimated £78M in FY25. Profitability is expected around mid-2026.
Based on publicly available information, company filings, and platform terms as of July 2026.
We're not a search engine.
Every platform on this page gives you a search bar and thousands of listings. MMC works the other way around.
What Motorway won't tell you.
Motorway is built for selling. MMC is built for buying. Here is what you will only find with us.
Which dealers are under pressure
Motorway connects you with dealers who want to buy your car. MMC tells you which dealers are desperate to sell theirs. 28 signals reveal motivation that no auction platform ever will.
What a car is really worth to the dealer
Motorway gives sellers a valuation based on auction demand. MMC shows buyers what a dealer paid, how long they have held it, and how much margin they are sitting on. Different question, different answer.
How to negotiate the price down
On Motorway, the dealer sets the bid. On MMC, you set the terms. Our AI Negotiator writes the email, plans the phone call, and prepares you for the face-to-face, using real dealer intelligence.
Whether the dealer is legitimate
Motorway vets dealers for its auction network. MMC checks every dealer you might buy from: Companies House status, FCA register, Google reviews, and dealer group detection. Automatically.
When a price is about to drop
Our Secret Steals product uses predictive analysis to identify vehicles where all pressure signals are converging. That is information no seller-side platform will ever surface.
